Crossing removal – If you are not already aware, Essex County Council is proposing to remove the signalised controlled pedestrian and cyclist crossing on Colne Bank Avenue that links the cycle route from the Essex Hall Roundabout to the cycle route leading to Sheepen Road, Colchester Institute, St Helena’s school and Hilly Fields. They are proposing providing an alternative crossing point nearer the entrance to Sheepen Road off the Avenue of Remembrance. This removes the direct desire line for many cyclists going between north and the west side of the town who do not want to cycle on the road. Full details of the public notice can be found on the Essex County Council website For more information from the local cycling community see the Cycle Colchester facebook page. Although the deadline for feedback is Friday 6th March, if you feel strongly about this proposal, please still respond to Essex County Council at TrafficRegulation.Order@essex.gov.uk quoting reference TRAF/4741.
The Rovers are offering road race training for young advanced riders, over 10 years old on a Monday evening at Colchester stadium throughout March. If you are more of a beginner, join a training session at Prettygate School on Saturday mornings.
In addition to their regular weekend club riders, the Rovers have also introduced a midweek evening ride.
Keep an eye on the Rovers facebook pages for more information.
