Cycle Colchester pop-up advice centre, Mondays throughout June in Lion Walk
Please spread the word about this, we want to help people seeking a simple low cost way to get fit and active to find out more about the joy of cycling! Our pop-up advice centre is being hosted by the One Colchester shop in Lion Walk (next to Primark), which is open from 10am-3pm on weekdays. Our maps and leaflets are prominently displayed in the shop, and from 10am and 1pm every Monday volunteers from groups including Cycle Colchester, Cycling for Pleasure, Re-Cycle, Sustrans, Colchester Bike Kitchen and LEAP (Leisure World’s Life Enhancing Activity Programme), will be on hand to share their experience of how to get started, the best sort of bike for you, where to get good quality second hand bikes, how to keep them well maintained, and how to find other people to ride with. Do call in and see us if you’re in town on a Monday morning, and if you have a few hours to spare as a volunteer, please let Pam know (07812 209862)!
Re-Cycle will be open from 9am to 1pm on Saturday 26 May for bike sales. This is an opportunity for anyone who cannot get to them during the week to purchase good quality used bicycles, safety checked by two mechanics, all of which come with a 60 day warranty.
For Bike Week 2018, Re-Cycle will be attending Eroica Britannica – a vintage family festival and bike ride in the Peak District from 15-17 June.

Cycling to school
Cycling to school is a ‘right’ of passage says Keir Gallagher, Cycling UK’s new Campaigns Officer and an enthusiastic cyclist from school onwards. He has been responding to a worrying flurry of school ‘cycle bans’, and argues that those early commutes set him up for life. “My bike remains my go-to transport for almost every journey I make” he says.
Clean Air Day Thursday 21 June
Clean Air Day(Thursday 21 June) is a chance for cyclists to share information with friends and colleagues about how cycling helps make the air cleaner and healthier for everyone. Air pollution is real and harms the health of millions; over 143 people in Colchester die early every year because of this. But there are lots of simple things we can do to improve air quality and look after our own and other people’s health. Check out the Clean Air Colchester website to find out what local people are doing.
