Have your say on the Colchester Future Transport Strategy
The strategy examines how the borough’s residents, employees and visitors currently travel and where transport investements should be made in the coming years, it also forms the basis for which all future transport schemes are judged against.
The way we travel needs to change to combat congestion, climate change and our children’s health, and that means moving away from using the car for everything and towards walking, cycling, car sharing and public transport.
If you want to have your say in the vision for transport in Colchester then please respond on the Essex Highways website
Wivenhoe Bike Kitchen
The volunteer team at Wivenhoe Bike Kitchen continue to offer free safety checks and running repairs during lockdown and beyond. It’s first come, first served at the workshop, just off St John’s Rd near the waterfront. Bikes need to arrive just before 7pm on Mondays or 2pm on Sundays and will be ready for collection two hours later – face coverings should be worn.
Project co-founder Jo Wheatley said, ‘We’re so pleased to have funding support from Cycling UK enabling us to offer this service during Covid as part of their Big Bike Revival.’ The project’s usual ‘do-it-together’ sessions will resume as soon as it’s safe for volunteers to work closely alongside visitors to the workshop. Keep an eye out for this new mountain bike led ride business coming soon to the area. Zoe has recently qualified as a British Cycling Level 2 MTB ride leader, and will be leading mountain bike rides of varying lengths locally and further afield once we’re allowed to socialise in bigger groups a bit more. We might be lacking in technical terrain around Colchester, but there are still plenty of country lanes and places for off road riding. Look out for more soon!
