Every cyclist who parked in our Cycle Town area was entered into a free raffle, and our three lucky winners received their prizes last week. First prize – a Kask ladies helmet donated by Velo Cycling & Coffee – was won by Sue, who said she had thoroughly enjoyed the Festival, and really appreciated the cycle parking facility. Second was a £100 Halfords voucher, which went to Belinda – she hasn’t yet decided what gadgets she’ll buy with it. And in third place was 9 year old Kira, who won a £75 voucher from Re-Cycle, the bike charity. Congratulations to all of our lucky winners – and many thanks to Velo, Halfords and Re-Cycle for their generous prizes.
Over the weekend, we enjoyed chatting to our many visitors, and hearing about their cycling experiences. In particular, we were delighted to meet a Dutch couple who are on our mailing list and so had heard about the Colchester Free Festival, and planned their UK visit to coincide with it. Minne we hope to see you again next year!
We were also very impressed with Keith and his family – his in-laws, his wife and two young children – who had decided to cycle to the Festival from New Town on both days. The children hadn’t tackled a journey of this length before and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We’ll be profiling Keith and his family in a future newsletter.
We also had a lovely chat with Nicola and her two sons Nicholas and Daniel who have all recently started cycling as a family. Daniel, who missed Bikeability training at school because he couldn’t ride a bike has learnt to cycle this summer holiday and is planning to cycle to his new secondary school; St Helena’s this term. Good luck Daniel, we hope it is working out and Nicola please get in touch regarding Bikeability training!
